Public-Private Partnerships

The federal government recently committed to making the largest investment in Canada’s infrastructure in modern history – $33 billion over seven years. This is new money to build roads and transit lanes, rehabilitate bridges and water systems, and to upgrade our international gateways, ports and airports across Canada.

Deeply rooted in the government’s $33 billion investment strategy is a pledge to rethink the traditional government approach to infrastructure renewal. This means promoting the use of public-private partnerships (P3s) in the hopes that the total amount invested in the future of infrastructure in Canada comes in closer to $100 billion.

In 2007, more than 130 P3 and infrastructure initiatives, worth over $25 billion, were announced or launched in almost every province across Canada.
